Directions Unit: My shoot

For my shoot, I had some trouble in securing a location, as i needed a body of water that was relatively isolated, and there are not many of those where I live, which they needed to be for easier access. The location that I chose was Milton Country park fishing lakes ( see Directions unit: Filming setting ), as it was isolated enough to have minimal background noise, and had a setting that was similar to the original film, 'The Gift' These are the props that i used when trying to make some sounds for my film.

Directions unit: Directors statement

Directors statement Casting These are some of the actors that i looked at on castingcallpro, and managed to get in contact with them to see if they were free to be on my shoot. Joanna Barton - A friend suggested her when i as looking for a woman to be one of my lead characters. I looked at her profile, and saw that she had done a variety of roles. i managed to get in contact with her, and she agreed to be on my shoot. she said that she had seen the original film that I had chosen, so she knew the role already, which was very god for me. The rest of these people, i contacted, but only Tom Collingwood and Rachael Waters contacted me back. however, they were both busy on my shoot days, so were unable to be in my film. Because of the lack of response,  I still needed roles filled, so I had to ask my family and friends if they would be able to be in my film. I did not want to do this as I wanted to try and be more professional for this topic. Locations Th

Directions unit: Directing technique research

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=409VozOFL8s - This video goes through some shots from some of Hitchcock's films and breaks them down into components, such as a characters position within the frame and what it means to the story. The video also goes on to talk about camera techniques, like when he is talking about the two pairs of shoes (2:00) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzbK-au0j58 - Alfred Hitchcock is a great director, so this video of him explaining how he directs, and giving an analogy of a painter and people looking at his artwork is very useful, as he says that it is not the story, but what you do with it, which is very thought provoking. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK34QsjPy0Q - This video talks about new directors finding their style, which could be in the form of what the shot looks like, whether it be aspect ratio, or type of shot (e.g. wide shot, faded background with subject in focus). He also says that you should go and watch past films, as well as

Directions unit: Evaluation

Overall, the making of my film went well, despite some problems during set up with location and actors. However, this was sorted and the filming went along with no problems. This was an enjoyable topic that taught me many things about being a director. The main problem that I had with setting up my film was with the location. The problem was that the location that I had chosen, Milton Creek country park fishing lakes, was ones by the local fishing club, which I did not know, despite living in the area for all my life. When I found this out, I managed to get in contact with the Chairman of the club, Bob locke, who said he would put my request to use the lakes in my film to a board, and get back to me with their decision as soon as possible. He then contacted me the next day, and said that the board members declined my request. I then look at some maps of sittingbourne to see if there were andy more bodies of water that I could use, and then found one at the other end of the country par

Directions unit: Assistant on shoot

On the first shoot of the people in my group, I was needed to be the sound operator. The day went really well, until the end, when the camera ran out of battery when we still had some footage to shoot. Because of this, we had to resume filming the next day, which also went smoothly. The two actors, Darren and Joanna, were very complicit and acted their lines very well, except when Darren had a few stumbles for part of one of the later scenes. The members of staff in the art gallery were also very helpful.
