Live Studio Production: Lecture - Scripting

Script content

- A decision must be made as to how much scripted content the programme contains
- If there is a lot of script for the presenter, prompts will be needed
- However, for shorter pieces the presenter can learn their lines and refer to printed prompt cards

Intros and outros

- Similarly your presenter can deliver links which take you from one part of the show to the next
- If links are long, they usually need prompting

Ad Libs

- These should be rehearsed to avoid going over given time
- Advantage of feeling natural and free-flowing, but can feel unprofessional

Timings

- Many elements of the script, notably anything which is not on autocue, will necessitate approximate timings
- It is important to keep on top of timings throughout the pre production and record process
- Adding minutes and seconds quickly is an essential skill

Good Scripting

- Factually accurate

- Well written - SPAG!

Who uses the script?

- All crew will need to refer to it
- Director and Vision Mixer will need to work on the script once content determined

If I had done this sooner, then I would have a better portfolio of more people who attend the club. I did manage to interview quite a few people at the club, both volunteer and customer, so I feel like I still had quite a good range of opinions, however it would have been good to broaden the types of questions that I asked them, such as what they did before coming to the club, or how they heard about the club. I feel like this would have been better to do as then the audience could build up more of a relationship to the characters, and
