3rd Year Project: My Project Shoot Day 2 - part One

The second shoot day for my project was on the 27th February, the day of the Lunch club. In the morning, I was also going to the house of another volunteer, a woman called Iris, to interview her as she leaves her house. I wanted to do this so that it gives the feel of the Lunch club coming together, with people traveling to it emphasising that point.  I wanted to interview Iris as she is one of the three people that came up with and suggested the idea of the Lunch club, so I thought that interviewing her would be very useful. I got to her house just before 9:00, and did a quick look around the outside area so that I could plan what shots I was going to be having, and how to film them. The walk between her front door and her car was quite long, so this allowed for her giving longer, more detailed answers. However, the drawback of this is that there is not a lot of options for clips to cut away from the interview shot in order to break up the scene a bit.  There was also another prob

3rd Year Project: My Project Shoot Day 1

Two weeks ago, I started my shoot week for my project. I was meant to start on Monday, however that shoot had to be cancelled, which I will talk about later in this post. also, because of the time of me getting the needed equipment, I moved one of the two shoots on the day to the next day. The shoot was an interview at the house of one of the volunteers at the club, called Barbie. I chose to interview her as she has been a volunteer at the lunch club for almost the whole time that it has been active, plus the fact that she is the person who suggested helping out there to my nan, which she did. Me and my crew arrived at the location around midday, and took half an hour setting up the cameras and mics. we had a three camera setup, with the main camera, the Panasonic, being a wider shot than the other two, having Barbie's body in the frame. The second camera, a Sony, was on a close-up of Barbie's face, so that it could focus on her facial expressions. The third camera was a smal

I have also been able to help a different group on one of their shoots. The location was set in a school in Chatham, so was very easy for me to get to, which is the main reason why I offered my help. I asked the group if I needed to bring anything with me, and they said that I needed to look like I was a sixth form student, so I brought a suit to change into, plus a bag with a few books in it.  I knew that I was only going to be used as an extra, but when I got to the location, I found out that I was only going to be walking along a corridor and sitting in a classroom. I was going to be doing this along with a few other people. This was to make it seem that there were more students than there were, as the shoot day was during half term.   The other actors that were at the location were really friendly and we all got on well. I had also helped the group out before on another project, so we worked well together. This project is something to do with mental health, and how it can affec

3rd Year Production Unit: Helping on another shoot part 2

I was helping out the same group on another of their shoot days, this time an interview and another test shoot which is set at a gym. The interview was with a man called Jamie Caroline, who is a former racecar driver who has won numerous awards throughout his relatively short career. He is an extremely talented driver who has many British championships in his award collection, but unfortunately hasn't been able to go to the next level of racing due to the fact that he is unable to secure any sponsors, so lacks the budget to compete.  The interview was set in his house, which is in Warlingham. We had to be there for 9:00am, and as I was taking the train, I was having to catch the 6:26 train. I met the rest of the group near the train station, and we arrived at his house on time. He was a really nice person who was welcoming and made us all feel relaxed. the interview was to be conducted in his bedroom, which was decorated with various awards and trophies. We had two cameras set up

3rd Year Production Unit: Helping on another shoot

For a few days over the past two weeks, I have been helping another group with shoots for their project. The first one of these was in in Strood, so was easy for me to travel to by train. I knew that we were filming a test shoot, which would be some interviews, but I did not know what the location was going to be like, other than it being a workshop. When I got to the location, i saw that it was a workshop for building racing cars, and the people at the garage were actually building a car for Alex, the director of the group I am helping, as the film they are doing is a documentary about Alex becoming a race car driver. We had a look around the workshop and decided where would be best to have the interviews, and then proceeded to conduct the interviews. I was on one of the cameras, and had to get a medium shot of Alex, who was the interviewee. We did several takes of the questions that the group had prepared, and it went very well.  Next, we needed to get some footage of Alex getting
