He inherited a love for filmmaking
from his father, a furniture and appliance store owner
He created his first film at the
age of 11, and two years later, he had his own 8 mm camera to use on his own
projects.
Raimi, along with his friend Bruce
Campbell, later studied filmmaking with Vern Nobles who made industrial films
In 1977, Raimi enrolled at
Michigan State University.
He formed Renaissance Pictures
with his friends Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert. To raise money, he and his
partners met with local doctors, lawyers, and other professionals in the
Detroit area.
For The Evil Dead, Raimi
and partners had trouble finding a distributor, but eventually had the film
released in Europe

Trademark Techniques
In several of his films, Raimi has
a voice-over from a principle character at the end of his films, such as in all
the Spider-man films and Army of Darkness
He usually wears a jacket and tie
in a tribute to Alfred Hitchcock
While filming, he humorously
"abuses" actors by doing things like hitting them with tree branches
to simulate getting hit with debris or throwing popcorn at them.
He is a big fan of the ‘whip pan’
